Thea Firth

Phone Volunteer

I was born and schooled in England, coming for Canada in 1957 to be married to my best friend, Allan. We settled in Winnipeg and raised three sons, all of whom still live in Winnipeg.

During the boys' growing years, I volunteered with the Canadian Amateur Diving Association and was instrumental in forming the Manitoba Amateur Roller Skating Association though only participating in the roller skating. I also enjoy bowling and have been secretary of my league for the last 25+ years.

I worked downtown for an Ophthalmologist for 31 years, and in my spare time volunteered for the Talking Book Program at the CNIB.

After my husband's death and my retirement in 2003, I volunteered with the Manitoba Society of Seniors as front desk receptionist for a couple of years and then volunteered with the Seven Oaks General Hospital in the Dialysis Unit. It was also at that time that I came to CJNU to answer their telephone.

I love my volunteer jobs and my sons are happy that they keep me occupied and "out of their hair!"
