Sunday's Radio Classic
Starting this weekend, Radio Classics is now also heard at 7:00 Sunday evenings. Each Sunday program will open with an episode from 'The Jack Benny Show. The series began in 1932 and continued until 1955. At 7:30 p.m. each Sunday, you'll hear a different musical variety program from radio's golden age, with this week's feature being from the Command Performance series, a wartime Variety Show broadcast mainly to the armed forces between 1942 and 1949. The program we're featuring tonight is from January 8, 1944. More.
February is the month of Valentine's Day - a time for hearts, beautiful flowers and sweet candy. It's also, like every other month, a time for the beautiful, sweet sounds of nostalgia music on CJNU.
Also on our weekly program schedule are a number of Feature Programs including 'CJNU Radio Classics', repeat broadcasts of programs from the 1930s through the '50s, heard weeknights at 9:00 and Sunday evenings at 7:00. All things big band, from the golden era of that music to more contemporary groups, is heard on the 'Original Big Band Showcase' with Denny Farrell heard Sunday afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00. Two hours of 1950s and '60s pop music with a dash of instrumental/ surf music from the Ventures and other groups, plus a little Martin Denny, Les Baxter, and Jobim is now heard Friday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 on 'Music From The North Shore' hosted by Greg Gardner.
Our host sponsor this month is Variety, the Children's Charity. This organization has raised more than $22 million in Manitoba to meet the special needs of children of all abilities. Their efforts enable children to participate more fully in life's activities. Variety's Gold Heart Campaign is a major fund raising project for Variety (click here to buy for $3). The 2012 Gold Heart has a 'Star Wars' theme.
