CJNU Announcer
When I decided to pursue a career in broadcasting, I attended the Creative Communications course at Red River College from 1981 to '83. My first radio job was at CKJS, Winnipeg's home of multi-lingual programming, as a copy writer and weekend announcer during 1982 and '83. I then moved to CFRY Portage la Prairie where I worked overnight and weekend mornings until 1985 when I came back to Winnipeg where I also worked overnights and weekends, this time at CKRC.
I also worked at CKWG 103 FM, and in 1987 was made full-time afternoon host at 103 FM, a position I held until 1992 when I moved to CJOB. I wore many hats at 'OB - announcer, newscaster, producer, sportscaster, part-time talk show host, and also working on the sidelines during Bomber broadcasts. In 1997, I left the radio business to go into the transportation industry as a sales representative for a trucking company.
On the personal side, I've been married since 1985 to my lovely wife Helga. We have no kids, but we do have two very precocious cats, Donny and Marie. I'm a two time cancer survivor.
At one time I played 1st Alto Saxophone in the Northwinds Community Band and served a term as that organization's president. Other personal interests include being an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, old toys, and most recently have gotten into pinball machines. I used to hold a gliders license earned through Air Cadets but let that lapse a while back.
I also enjoy travelling and love food way too much.
