My beginnings in Radio aren't quite the same as most who start in the business. There was a work experience program in high school that gave me a taste of the business. Years later I decided, at 38, to go back to school at Robertson College, where I took the Radio/Television Broadcasting course.
After eight months of studying and nearly completing the course, I was sent to CKVN for my practicum, which turned into my first job in the business. My first shift in radio was inside a senior's residence and that morning I was to be technical producer for Bob Washington and later Bob Munn. There were some rough first moments, and I nearly didn't last through the first year - but with help and tutoring by Harry Taylor and some of the announcers, especially Murray Parker and Jim Coghill, I made it through.
There have been many changes in the nostalgia stations through the years, but the music remains the same. I enjoy the business very much and in many ways have helped new announcers and techies alike over a period of time. I hope to be a part of the business for many years to come.
