I was born and raised in Saskatchewan, living mainly in Bulyea and Regina. In 1951, I joined the Hudson's Bay Company Fur Trade Department and spent six years in northern Saskatchewan, Northern Manitoba, and Northwest Ontario.
In 1957, I was transferred to The Bay's Winnipeg Office, getting into the accounting field. I met my wife Olive in this office. We were married in 1959. From then until 1984, we lived twice in both Montreal and Edmonton.
Both our children were born in Montreal. I was transferred back to Winnipeg in 1984.
During the next 14 years, I travelled extensively across Northern Canada, from Whitehorse to Labrador, plus a side trip to Alaska. In my lifetime, I have visited every province and territory in this great land of ours. I was still based in the Winnipeg office when I retired in 1998 after nearly 47 years service with HBC Fur Trade/Northern Stores and North West Company.
My volunteer work has included Scouts Canada, MS Society, Winnipeg Police Service, Iron Cops, PC Party of Alberta and Manitoba, Edmonton Jazz City, and Winnipeg Jazz Society. I volunteered for 15 years in Hospitality with Jazz Winnipeg, am in my 21st year at Fort Whyte Alive, and in my 16th year with Toastmasters, attaining my DTM in 2005.
